Hot Girls Advocate
Originally from Michigan, Josie works in Education teaching second grade in rural Arizona. Josie is a Get Your Teach On Gold Star Teacher nominee and seeks to advocate for all students no matter their ability or background.
What is your day-to-day like? What are some current projects you are passionate about?
In my classroom, I focus heavily on Social-Emotional Learning, Diversity/Equity/Inclusion, and Culturally-Responsive practices.
How are you breaking glass ceilings/ and helping pave the way for more women in your industry?
Because education is 80% female and primarily white females, the ceilings that need to be broken are by powerhouses of color. ALL students deserve to see teachers that look like them! One way I can aid in that is by encouraging marginalized friends to pursue this career if they have the interest, and to do my part to keep educators from feeling burnt out. I am writing a reflection journal specifically designed for teachers and helping lead trainings and workshops!
What does being a "hot girl" mean to you?
Exuding confidence and being authentically yourself. Also, womxn are amazing.
